TWARON®

*Twaron® is a high-performance material that offers a range of advantages over fiberglass and steel, particularly in applications that demand a high strength-to-weight ratio, impact resistance, durability, and environmental adaptability. While fiberglass and steel have their place in various industries, Twaron®'s combination of lightweight, flexible, and high-performance properties make it a standout choice for industries ranging from defense to aerospace, automotive, and marine. Many recognized builders such as Hallberg-Rassy and Nautor Swan incorporate aramid fibers such as Twaron® and Kevlar® in primary impact areas or will lay one or possibly two layers for reinforcement. Bluewater Yachts incorporates Twaron® in alternate layers through the entire hull and deck lay-up schedules.

Mechanical & Electrical

Bluewater Yacht’s mechanical and electrical systems designs are infused with the experience of 30 years of owning and managing one of the first major charter companies in the Virgin Islands. If charter boats break down, business fails. Although there are many yacht builders creating good systems, none have the experience of a thousand charters a year to understand the crucial importance of proper systems, installed with redundancy, and exceptionally easy to access. Accessibility and redundancy are the foundation of the Bluewater Yachts mechanical and electrical plan. We do not offer an engine room but create the opposite effect by wrapping the engine with easy, direct access to every important component. All key systems, manifolds, and controls are installed and accessed from outside of the engine area and not subject to the constant heat, belt dust, or contaminants of the engine enclosure. Swing opens the bottom steps of the companionway and the Bluewater 56 offers direct and immediate access to the fuel filters and fuel polishing system which is crucial to maintaining a well-running, long-lasting engine. This access point also provides easy access to the alternator belts, engine injectors, auxiliary fuel pump, and a direct engine start/stop switch so you can run the engine while working on your own—no need to run up to the cockpit controls.

Customized Interior

Bluewater Yachts builds just four new Bluewater 56s each year. The result of such focused production is that every Bluewater Yacht is custom built to each owner's design ideas and cruising plans. Every builder offers two or three layout options along with two or three cabinetry finishes. More often than not builders are now using laminates and moving away from real wood finishes as well. Bluewater offers owners the options of teak, mahogany, white oak, maple, or American cherry. Cabinetry finishes include traditional raised paneling, recessed edge paneling, louvered and European-style, flush cabinetry. At Bluewater Yachts we work hand-in-hand with each owner to create the layout of each cabin--the cabinetry, shelving, storage, styling, etc.--throughout the entire interior, cabin by cabin, from the style of the headliner to the look and finish of the cabin sole.

Hull

Hull: The absolute key factor in designing a hull laminate is strength. Each Bluewater hull is simply the strongest and most resilient hull offered in the semi-custom, offshore performance cruising market. Each hull is solid laminate, no cores. To further strengthen their Hulls, most top builders offer aramid fiber (Twaron or Kevlar, FAQ) in key impact areas. Some even offer a layer or two in the complete Hull. Bluewater offers alternate layers of Twaron throughout the entire Hull and Deck laminate schedules with Vinylester Resins throughout. There is no chance for delamination. There is no chance for osmotic blistering. This is simply the finest, strongest Hull laminate in the offshore cruising market. In addition to the strength offered by our hull laminate each Bluewater Yachts design features Solid Watertight bulkheads forward and aft including individual lazarettes aft that are fully watertight protecting the stern and aft quarters. Forward of the watertight bulkhead in the bow cabin are separate sail lockers with independent access from the deck. These lockers protect the integrity of the boat as buffers against collisions from the bow. The aft cabin, main saloon, and forward cabin(s) are protected by hull bottom to deck watertight bulkheads.

Deck & Cockpits

Deck: For stiffness and lightweight, Bluewater Yachts’ decks incorporate a core material in the nonskid areas only. The core is laid between layers of Twaron reinforcement set in resin to create an incredibly strong, stiff, balanced structure which enhances the overall strength of our yachts. All through Deck fittings including all rigging components are run through solid deck with no coring. Our decks are also designed for maximum ergonomics. When you need to move forward from the cockpit in a hurry, you don’t want anything in your way except the handholds that keep you safe. Cockpit Ergonomics. Once in the cockpit and at the helm, there is no reason to move anywhere to manage your yacht. Every step required to handle the main, genoa, and staysail can be handled directly from the helm including the new Selden Synchronized Main Furling design which sets the in-mast furling mainsail with the push of a button. Even your anchoring, both setting and retrieving can be fully controlled from the Helm. Stanchions, & Pulpits. Bluewater Yachts feature solid rails from the across the Stern to the Midship gates both port and starboard. The vertical and horizontal tubes in these rails are 1.25” thick-walled stainless with solid bases and at a height of 34” our stanchions are taller and stronger than any European yacht on the market. Keel & Rudder

The Bluewater 56 features an externally bolted lead keel with fourteen keel bolts run in parallel, each 35mm in diameter. Each pair of Bolts is coupled with a solid 10mm stainless backing plate with two stainless nuts on each bolt. This design format represents a superior design to earlier encapsulated keels and have a Zero failure rate. A key safety feature of all Bluewater Yachts is our 60% skegged rudder which offers superior balance, performance and response while offering a wider range of protection over a spade or even fully skegged Rudder.(FAQ) A partially-skegged rudder offers a three-bearing design which is stronger and more compressed than a fully-skegged rudder with out the risk of the lower skeg jamming against the rudder in moderate to heavy impact. Very importantly the top bearing is above the waterline with excellent access and is easily serviced.

Rig & Rigging

Bluewater Yachts works exclusively with Selden for our standard masts and rigging. Bluewater Yachts offers Electric In Mast Furling as standard. The Bluewater 56 also features a Cutter Rig which is simply a superior offshore Sail Plan. Both in-boom furling and solent rigs are available if preferred. (https://www.bluewateryachts.co/faqs) All halyards are High load Dyneema and every Bluewater model comes with both primary and secondary main and genoa halyards along with a staysail halyard, topping lift, spinnaker Halyard and also feature an Internal Boom Preventer as standard.
